What Exactly Is an EVSE Charger?

An EVSE charger supplies electric energy for recharging electric vehicles. Today, there are only three levels of EV charging devices:

• Level 1 Charger
  This is a standard charger that comes complete with EV and is plugged into any typical three-prong outlet. While this charger requires no installation, the rate at which it charges vehicles is very slow. Level 1 EVSE chargers are suitable for overnight use and can take at least 20 hours to fully charge your vehicle’s battery.
• Level 2 Charger
  This is a more advanced EVSE charger that demands its own 240-volt circuit which has to be installed by a professional in your garage. These chargers work faster, fully charging an electric vehicle in just three hours. More and more EV manufacturers are now incorporating Level 2 charger standard with every new car sold. 
• Level 3 Charger
  This is a standalone device seen at public charging stations. It’s capable of adding about 160 miles of driving range to the batteries of an EV in just half an hour. However, besides the mindboggling price tag, they feature an industrial-level power draw that renders them inaccessible by homeowners. But if you work or own an industrial building, then you can decide to install a Level 3 charger.
